Writing When Miserable

I haven’t really felt well in a month or so. I suspect the depression is creeping back in because we have had such a dreary, chilly Spring so far.

The thing is, if I don’t plant my butt in my chair and get some writing done, I won’t finish editing the book by the time the SCWA Conference rolls around in November–and I paid for an agent pitch. I did this on purpose to terrify me into finishing my work with a hard deadline. So far, it has not been working especially well but I intend to knuckle down this week and get back to the old grindstone.

I have a great part-time job where we’re almost never truly busy, so I have time to sit in the corner and type away in between customers (and the door is alarmed so I always know when someone is coming inside). That gives me time every day of the week to get something creative done, and I need to use that time before something happens to change things. You never know when business is going to pick up, after all.

If you know any great motivational techniques, please comment because I need some encouragement!
