Real Life Money Sinks

I recently got a little extra money from my old job – they cashed out the rest of the stocks I’d gotten (they are an employee-owned company so you can’t own the stocks if you don’t work for them) – and have been using it to repair a few things around the old homestead.

Not my house of course!

So far, I have replaced the elderly fridge and stove (delivery coming up next week), pressure washed the siding, and am now getting estimates for replacing the old boards in the back deck. Man, everything is so expensive nowadays! I also need to replace the frames of a couple of windows and get the wood part of the house repainted again. By that time, the money will be used up and I will really be living on my Social Security and part-time jobs (gulp!).

I do need to really cut back on my spending though – we can all learn that trick! All these little trickles of money every month for streaming services and apps and Starbucks … I will be weeding those out assiduously in the next month or so. I have a little over a year to go paying off that massive IRS bill from last year and then I will have a good chunk more money every month that I can sock away in a savings account for emergencies. Until then, it’s going to be tight going. If you have any wonderful money-saving tips, comment and give me your secret!
