Goodbye 2020/Hello 2021

The year is ending … finally. Like many, I feel this year has been both longer and shorter than any I’ve known. It seems we’ve been quarantined for at least 12 months, yet it seems only yesterday it was July 4th.

I hope the stroke of midnight means health and happiness for you and yours, and that 2021 will be a better year for us all. I’m planning to follow all the old superstitions this year. Come midnight, the doors will be opened, the old dirt swept symbolically outside, and the house smudged with sage. We’ll also be setting off fireworks to destroy 2020! There will be chilled champagne in flutes. Tomorrow we’ll eat black-eyed peas, cornbread, and collard greens. Now if I only knew a tall, dark gentleman who could “first-foot” into the place at midnight …

What about you? Are you staying up to usher out the old year? Going to watch the ball drop on TV or celebrate with fireworks and champagne? Which superstitions do you follow?
