What I’m Watching: Good Omens 2

I loved the novel and the first season was excellent, so I’ve been looking forward to watching the second season.

I’ll try not to include any real spoilers. I’m assuming everyone has seen the trailers and thus knows that Archangel Gabriel shows up at the bookstore, naked (carrying a box in a strategic location) and memory-less, with Heaven and Hell on his trail. Aziraphale finds A Clue and the hunt is on.

Although not quite as enchanting as the original, Season 2 is still a good watch, especially if you are a fan. There are plenty of Easter Eggs, like Terry Pratchett’s hat and Doctor Who references. The new characters are interesting, even if it is a bit confusing at first to see actors from Season 1 in completely different roles. And it’s fun seeing Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship developing through the centuries.

The cliffhanger ending, however, is hard to take and we will just hope that Amazon will see fit to film Season 3 as quickly as possible. Neil Gaiman has said he will write it as a novel if they won’t, but that’s going to take even longer to get into our greedy little hands. We (well, most of us, I guess) understand why the ending had to happen that way, but it’s still difficult to deal with when you have no guarantee that it will be resolved.

If you are a fan, there is really only one thing to do now: “watch” the show obsessively, even if you just put it on in the background and occasionally pull up the tab and hit “skip intro” or view the trivia to show you’re still paying attention. The more we watch, the more Amazon will be convinced that it will be in their best interest to produce the end of the trilogy!
