Food in Victorian America

My lads do enjoy their food, and with the money they’ve “earned” over the years, they can afford to set a fine table or dine out at the best establishments.

Here’s an interesting timeline of foods and when they were introduced to America during the Victorian Era.

Some “new” foods Kye and Chance might have been tempted by included Pillsbury Flour, California raisins, Parker House rolls, New Orleans King Cakes, Neapolitan ice cream, marble cake, Philadelphia cream cheese, and sugar cubes.

I try to do the research and make certain the foods I put on their table are ones that would legitimately have been there in that era. In addition to the Victorian Pride website, I use several old cookbooks and have a small online “collection” of menus from the time that I peruse for historically accurate meal ideas.
